Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Gliderama!

What kind of aircraft can soar high in the sky yet hardly make any noise?...a glider! Meet the experts at the Museum and get the scoop on these amazing aircraft. Find out why this type of flying is called the silent sport, and then make your own high-flying paper glider.
Wells Fargo Free First Thursday
Thursday, March 1, 5 to 9 p.m.
Once a month, the Museum stays open late - and admission is free. Enjoy the Museum's Great Gallery, Personal Courage Wing, Red Barn and more from 5 to 9 p.m., courtesy of Wells Fargo. Museum Store and Wings Café will also remain open for the extended hours on this night.

Women Fly! All Day Program for Young Women
Friday, March 2, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Women Fly! is one of the Museum's premier educational events. The two-day program includes Friday networking activities for young women and aerospace professionals, and a Saturday panel discussion open to the public.
The Friday Women Fly! program is open to 100 young women ages 13-17 to participate in a day of motivational and career-oriented activities allowing them to meet and learn from professional women working in a variety of flight-related careers. Volunteering their time are dozens of women aerospace professionals: airport operators, pilots, air traffic controllers and engineers in all disciplines. Highlighting the day is panel presentation with a stellar group of professionals sharing their experiences, including former astronaut and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Wendy Lawrence. Capt. Lawrence is a veteran of four space flights, including STS-114 Discovery, the "Return to Flight" mission.

Women Fly! Panel Discussion

This annual Women Fly! panel is an exploration of the roles of women in aviation and aerospace. The panelists include former astronaut and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Wendy Lawrence. Capt. Lawrence is a veteran of four space flights, including STS-114 Discovery, the "Return to Flight" mission.
Family Event
Soaring Expo 2011
Saturday and Sunday, March 17-18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The member clubs of the Seattle Glider Council again present a glimpse into the fascinating world of silent flight at Soaring Expo 2012. Full-size gliders and radio-controlled gliders will be on display. Lectures, movies and presentations are offered all weekend. Representatives of local soaring and RC glider clubs will be on-hand to answer questions. Soaring Expo 2012 is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, and free with admission to the Museum or Museum membership.
Educational Presentations
Boy Scout Astronomy Merit Badge Program
Saturday, March 24, 9 a.m. to noon
Museum astronomy experts will conduct fun, educational programs about stars, telescopes, and observation skills, followed by a planetarium show exploring the constellations, planets, and the Solar System. The three-hour program is geared to earn Boy Scouts a merit badge in astronomy.

"Spy Pilot Chronicles" - An Evening with Blackbird Spyplane Crewmembers
Brian Shul and Walt Watson
Saturday, March 24, 6 to 9 p.m.
Veteran USAF SR-71 Blackbird spyplane crew Brian Shul and Walt Watson will share their experiences at "Spy Pilot Chronicles," a unique event that includes a private reception under the Blackbird - where you can talk and ask questions with the pilots - followed by a presentation and book signing the William M. Allen Theater. The reception includes a no-host bar and hosted appetizers. Tickets $55/Museum member; $70/non-member.
Shul has been delivering his programs to full houses at the Museum for 20 years; this program with Watson is entirely new, and is not to be missed. This special event also marks the 20th anniversary of Shul's "Sled Driver," the first photo/essay book to put the reader into the cockpit of the most exotic aircraft ever built - the SR-71.

Bank of America Weekend Family Workshop: Kites on the Fly!
Saturdays and Sundays, April 7, 8,14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Did you know that people have been flying kites for over 2,000 years? From delicate kites made out of leaves to unique kites used for fishing to large kites that can actually lift people into the air, the kite has played an important role in aviation history. Come get the story of these incredible yet simple flying objects, then make and decorate your own kite to fly at home!

American Fighter Aces
Saturday, April 7
The Museum of Flight is home to the American Fighter Aces Association, founded to recognize the 1,442 combat pilots that have received the special designation of "ace." This panel discussion includes Korean War Ace USAF Gen. Charles Cleveland, World War II U.S. Navy Ace Cmdr. Willis Hardy and World War II RCAF and USAF combat pilot Col. Al Jones.

Voyage to Mars: Space Travel for Families
Saturday, April 7, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Be an astronaut for a day! In this mission to Mars, your group is traveling to the Red Planet to replace a crew of astronauts who have been living there for the past two years. In addition to landing on the Martian surface, the team collects and analyzes geologic samples and launches exploratory probes to the two moons of Mars. The excitement takes place in the Museum's Challenger Learning Center, a facility designed to simulate space missions for large groups using a full-scale mission control center and a spacecraft cabin. Each mission uses hands-on activities engaging participants in teamwork, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking. And it is fun!
Cost (Including museum admission): Member: $7 youth (under 18); id="mce_marker"2 adult

Audience: Ages 10 and up. Youth under 16 years old must be accompanied by adult participant. One adult minimum per 5 youth.

Cancellation policy: A full refund will be made if you cancel at least 3 working days prior to the program. No refund will be made after that date. There are no partial refunds. This program requires a minimum number of participants. You will be notified, and a full refund issued, if this event is cancelled.
Symposium
Air War One - A World War I Aviation Symposium
Saturday, April 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Aviation historians and World War I aviation experts lead eight sessions about the aircraft and aerial military operations during the Great War. Presenters include Dr. Richard Hallion, Terry Finnegan, Arvo Vercamer, Dr. Logan Holtgrewe and The Museum of Flight Senior Curator, Dan Hagedorn. Topics include fighter development and tactics, airships at war, reconnaissance and aerial operations at the fronts, building World War I scale models, and the Museum's Great War aircraft and archives. Many of the presenters are noted authors, and will be available for book signings.
