KCTS Airs "Aiming for the Moon: The Museum of Flight Salutes Apollo XI"

SEATTLE, July 17, 2009

--July 20, 2009, marks the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's first steps on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Seattle's Public Broadcasting System affiliate KCTS 9 salutes the event with a new production, "Aiming for the Moon: The Museum of Flight Salutes Apollo XI" on July 20 at 10 p.m.

This is hour-long special incorporates highlights from The Museum of Flight's recent Wings of Heroes Gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. The program also includes rare NASA footage, exclusive interviews with key players in the Apollo program and profiles of the Museum's educational programs.  The Wings of Heroes Gala is an annual fund raising event for the Museum's education programs. The 2009 Gala was a historic reunion of over 30 Apollo program flight controllers, engineers and astronauts. Attendees and speakers included NASA Apollo Manager, Dr. George Mueller; NASA Director of the Johnson Space Center, Dr. Chris Kraft; Flight Director, Gene Kranz-"Failure is Not an Option"; Apollo Astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Bill Anders, Dick Gordon, and Charlie Duke; and Apollo Command Module Chief Engineer, George Jeffs. This salute to the stars of the Apollo space program raised more than $1 million to help support the Museum's education programs. The Museum's educational programs are among the largest of any air and space museum in the nation, serving more than 120,000 K-12 youth every year. The Museum aligns its content with state and national academic standards, and hopes to inspire the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians (STEM).
