Memorial of Southeast Asia U.S. Air Force Operations Unveiled at Museum Nov. 10

Ceremony includes fly-in by Museum's Cessna O-2A warbird

SEATTLE, Oct. 29, 2013--A large, bronze sculpture depicting a map of the U.S. Air Force Southeast Asia military theater of operations will be unveiled at the Vietnam War exhibit in the Great Gallery during an 11 a.m. ceremony on Nov. 10. Museum Curator Dan Hagedorn will be the keynote speaker at the event. The 8-foot-tall memorial features the locations of the American airbases used from 1959 to 1975, and it is dedicated to the memory of U. S. Air Force Lt. Richard Christy, who was killed in action in 1972 over Vietnam while flying a Cessna O-2A as a forward air controller. The Museum's Cessna O-2A will be flown in from Everett, Wash. and be on display all day in the Museum's east parking lot.
