First Passenger Flight Over the Poles

Author Brian Baum recounts 1977 Pan Am Flight 

SEATTLE, Oct. 17, 2012--Thirty-five years ago this month, Pan American World Airways organized Flight 50, the first passenger flight around the world over the North and South Poles. The Boeing 747SP Clipper New Horizons made the journey from San Francisco to London, Cape Town, Auckland and back to San Francisco in 54 hours, 7 minutes, 12 seconds. Aviation author Brian Baum will recount what it was like to be a passenger aboard the record-setting flight during a presentation on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. Baum will illustrate the program with his unique, personal photographs from the flight. The lecture is free with admission to the Museum.

The non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest independent air and space museums in the world.
