SEATTLE, March 5, 2018--The

Museum's annual Mars Madness program begins March 10 with the first of three weekend lectures about the exploration of the Red Planet. The presentations feature researchers, spaceflight experts and NASA managers to present some of the latest news about Mars and what is in the works for future missions to the planet. The Museum's Weekend Family Workshops will also focus on Mars and deep space all month. The presentations and workshops are free with admission.

March 10, 2 p.m. - How We Fly Deep Space Missions - NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory spaceflight project manager Terry Himes will talk about how we actually propose, develop, build, launch and fly spacecraft in deep space. Himes has had major roles in the successful development of deep space missions such as the Mars InSight Lander and Mars Phoenix Lander.
March 17, 2 p.m. - The University Space Report - "Space Ambassadors" from the University of Washington bring the latest in spaceflight down to Earth during three 20-minute presentations. The Program will be enthusiastically moderated by Tyler Valentine, undergraduate research assistant at the UW Earth and Space Science Department.

March 24, 2 p.m. - Mars 2020 - A rocket scientist for decades and now an aerospace consultant, Roger Myers will talk about NASA's ambitious Mars 2020 mission, and discuss the latest plans to fly people to Mars.
