Remote Girl Scout Badge Workshops guide Scouts through a full set of badge requirements in an online portal, supported by a kit of physical materials mailed to the Scout. Also included in each Badge Workshop is access to a live event led by The Museum of Flight's educators!

Presented in partnership with the Girl Scouts of Western Washington.

Playing the Past Badge Workshop

Journey back in time to the world of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) – brave women who served the United States during World War II by supporting the military in getting airplanes to the places they needed to be!

Girl Scout Juniors will spend time on their own learning about what it was like to be a young woman in the 1940s and then join other Girl Scouts in an hour-long virtual Living History event. By the end of this workshop, your Girl Scout will have the opportunity to get to know and become a WASP.

This workshop includes:

  • Self-guided lessons via online portal
  • Materials kit; includes:
    • Workbook (filled with complete-on-your-own activities)
    • Pencil & pencil sharpener
    • Aviator scarf and wings
    • and more!
  • Access to a virtual Living History Event led by The Museum of Flight's Educators (see FAQs for more details).

Once you register for the workshop, you will receive access to the online portal that pairs with the Materials Kit that will be shipped to your Scout to help them on their journey into the past!

When you are ready to share some of your learning and become your character, Scouts can register for a virtual Living History event! This event will bring Girl Scouts together to participate in a WASP ground school session and truly become their characters.

After completing all of the self-guided and live components of this workshop, your Girl Scout will have completed activities that fulfill all five requirements of the Playing the Past Badge.*

Do you have to be a Girl Scout to participate in this workshop?

No! This workshop is designed for Girl Scout audiences, but anyone that identifies as a girl can participate.

I'm a troop leader, can I register my whole troop for a badge workshop?

Yes! Each scout will need their own registration so they each receive their own materials kit, but you can purchase as many workshops as you need to supply your whole troop. Please note: all materials kits will be mailed to you as the purchaser to distribute to your troop.

When will I receive my materials kit?

Materials kits will be shipped out within three business days of the date you select during purchase. For example, if you select Friday, March 26 for your order it will be shipped out no later than Tuesday, March 30. Once it leaves the Museum, shipping time is 5-8 days. You will receive a tracking number after your kit has shipped.

Do I have to participate in the live event?

No, the live event is optional...but it's a lot of fun so we encourage you to participate! If you do want to participate, we recommend waiting until you have received your materials kit and have started a few activities in your workbook before attending. Details on how to register for the live event will be in your workshop confirmation email after purchase.

I have younger/older scouts, is there a workshop or program for them?

At this time we do not have workshops for younger or older troops. However, we encourage you to look at our other Virtual Programs as we'd be happy to run these programs for a scout troop!

When I click the purchase link it asks me to select a date, what is this for?

This is the date that we will ship your materials kit. Pick any date you want!

How do I select my live event date?

After you select your materials kit shipping date and complete your workshop purchase, you will receive a confirmation email—the registration link for live events is in this confirmation email. Please wait until after you receive your materials kit to register for a live event, to ensure you have the materials you need to participate. We also recommend having completed the Decide Who You Are activity in your kit before attending the live event.

Is financial assistance available?

At this time we do not offer financial assistance for 100% of program costs, but partial assistance is available! Apply HERE
