SEATTLE, Aug. 30, 2018--On Sept. 8 author Darragh Metzger discusses her new book Alaska Over Israel, the story of how in 1948 a small, struggling Alaska Airlines began a dangerous and heroic adventure that helped thousands form a new nation. Operation Magic Carpet was the top-secret emergency airlift meant to rescue Jewish refugees from around the world and bring them to their ancient homeland--the newly reborn nation of Israel. The 2 p.m. program is free with Museum admission.

Metzger grew up with the story-her parents were an Alaska pilot and flight attendant in the Operation who dodged bullets and bombs from Yemen to Shanghai as they rescued thousands of refugees and flew them to Israel. Metzger will sign books and field questions from the audience following the presentation.
