Fly Girls by Keith O'Brien | Recommended ages: 10+

In 1928, less than a dozen American women had a government-issued pilot's license, making the few women who flew planes true radicals. Fly Girls tells that story, their story—the story of women fighting for the right to fly airplanes, winning the right to race them, and then beating the men in one of the most dangerous air races of them all. It was, for the female pilots, a stunning upset and one that proved what the women had known all along: They were just as good as the male pilots, maybe better. They belonged.

Join us for this chat with Keith O'Brien where he'll share more about the story of these amazing women and YOU, the participants, can follow along with a game of Author Chat Bingo!

The Women with Silver Wings by Katherine Sharp Landdeck | Recommended ages: 14+

The Women with Silver Wings takes us alongside the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) from the Golden Age of Aviation in the 1930s, through the war years, and into their lives after the war. We get to know the women as they fly the fastest military planes of the war and cheer for them as they spend the 1970s fighting to not be forgotten. Their story inspires readers to learn more about these women and to follow their own dreams.

Join us for this chat with Katherine Sharp Landdeck where she'll share more about her experience researching and writing about the WASP.
