The Firsts Tour… In SPAAAAAACE!

The Firsts Tour… In SPAAAAAACE!

The Space Race in the 1950s and 60s was all about being first. During this guided experience, you will explore many of the Museum’s unique examples of first achievements in spaceflight. We will show you remains of the world’s first liquid-fueled rocket--built by Robert Goddard in 1926, plus a 1950s Russian-made engineering model of Sputnik (as close as you can come to the first satellite). Peek inside the very first Apollo command module. We’ll tell you the story behind NASA’s first official mission patch, and show you fragments of the first airplane that Neil Armstrong brought to the Moon. Get up-close with the Space Shuttle Trainer that was often a new astronaut’s first experience with a full-scale Shuttle. Then walk through the Presidential jet that carried the Apollo 11 astronauts on their round-the world goodwill tour following their trip to the Moon.

Experience Length: 2-3 hours
*Requires use of stairs and/or ladders (Shuttle Trainer includes both).
