Living History is an interpretive technique where the past is brought to life!
Volunteers engage visitors through historical interpretation with the use of costumes, props, improvisation, storytelling, and/or scripts to help guests imagine daily life in the past. Living History Interpreters can choose to portray important figures or significant events/ideas from aerospace history. The program’s goal is to provide consistent and exemplary visitor experiences that are educational, enjoyable, and motivate guests to learn more about aerospace history.
Responsibilities
- Wear historic clothing to portray a person, place, or time period.
- Provide a fun and educational experience for visitors.
- Conduct research to be able to accurately portray the past. Clearly and concisely impart your research information to visitors of different ages and interest levels.
- Utilize pre-made scripts or develop a script based off real historical figures or fictional-composite characters (representative of a certain group of people or profession).
- Provide demonstrations to simulate life in the past.
- Make connections between modern life and the past, taking stories and making them relevant for visitors today. Invite visitors to participate by asking guiding questions, examining artifacts and props, or involving them in the demonstrations.
Qualifications
- Energetic, outgoing, and friendly individuals with an enthusiasm and interest in The Museum of Flight.
- Demonstrated ability to educate and interact with diverse audiences.
- Willingness to learn relevant historical information.
- Ability to succeed in a crowded, noisy atmosphere.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Accurately represent the past, maintain a neat personal appearance, and treat the clothing and props with respect
- No previous experience or theater training is required.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
