Who: Meet the artists and curators behind the Museum’s 6-month art exhibition and project

Where: The Museum of Flight, exclusive access to Museum-wide exhibition that opens to the public June 10

SEATTLE, June 1, 2023—On June 8, from 11a.m.-1p.m., there will be a media preview of The Museum of Flight’s new 6-month exhibition and project, Art+Flight. This informal preview will bring together Museum curators and over a dozen exhibiting artists for interviews and photo opportunities throughout the museum-wide Art+Flight exhibition. Please contact PR Manager Ted Huetter for further details or questions.

Art+Flight was developed by the Museum as bold departure from its traditional flightpath to connect the region’s vibrant arts scene with its rich aerospace history. The Art+Flight artists are known for works not associated with aviation or space yet have created artwork inspired by the concept of flight both real and imagined.

Running through Jan. 7, 2024, the Art+Flight project will exhibit dozens of artworks in all mediums by over 30 artists. In addition to a juried exhibition, there will be an artist-in-residence, new media installations by two artists, plus four commissioned murals and a sculpture. The Museum is contributing an installation drawn from its eclectic poster collection. The Museum’s weekend programs and annual events will feature the arts throughout the exhibition’s run. These include artist lectures and workshops, performance arts, an interactive mural project and frequent family arts activities.

Artist bios, artwork images, project information and calendar of events are online at the Art+Flight website beginning June 5.

The Reason for Art+Flight

“The Museum is renowned for its expansive aerospace collections and vivid storytelling,” said The Museum of Flight President and CEO Matt Hayes. “For over 55 years we have shared the physicality of flying machines, their place in history and the people close to them. As visitors to this Museum we might have profound connections to what’s here, but do not have the means to express them. This is when artists can help. Art+Flight will elevate our experience and help us to realize our feelings, enhance our perceptions, and remind us of the awe and joy of flight through the language of art. The project will also engage the Museum with the rich diversity of the local community in entirely new ways for us, and that is very exciting.”
