The P-51B arrived just in time to same the American daylight bombing campaign in Europe, but it also arrived with many mechanical problems that might have kept it from service in peacetime. Ammunition jams, frosted windshields and propeller problems were the least of it - other problems caused the tail, engine or wings to snap off in combat!
Chris Bucholtz, author of P-51B/C Mustang: Northwest Europe 1943-1944 explains how mechanics tamed the Mustang's myriad problems and tells about the pilots who overcame its built-in dangers to defeat the German Luftwaffe on its own turf.
Chris' book will be available for purchase in the Museum Store.
