Museum Members are invited to an exclusive evening with retired astronaut Jan Davis!
Jan will discuss her book Air Born: Two Generations in Flight, which links her experiences as a Space Shuttle astronaut with her father Ben Smotherman's service as a B-17 pilot during World War II. Shot down and taken as a POW in 1943, Smotherman’s wartime log revealed surprising connections between his life and his daughter's space career. This inspiring story highlights the intersection of two completely different yet uniquely connected worlds brought together by a common link of flight and family.
Jan will also showcase her father’s art, featured in her recently published companion novel, Air Born: Artistic Musings of a WWII Pilot and POW. Included you'll find a selection of Ben's watercolor paintings, pencil sketches, and his comic strip, Penny.
Jan will be signing copies of her books after her presentation.
