The Museum of Flight's fourth annual Spirit of Flight juried photography exhibition is now open! The exhibit will be displayed in the Great Gallery from June, 30 2012 through December 9, 2012. Exhibition participation, is open to all photographers, and photographs need only reflect a "Spirit of Flight."
The prize-winning photographs from this year's show are displayed on this page and will appear in the November issue of Aloft.
First Prize:
Courage by Susan Johnson-Roehr
Sunset at Launch Complex 34 (LC-34), site of the Apollo 1 fire that claimed the lives of astronauts Virgil "Gus" Grissom, Edward H. White, and Roger B. Chaffee, Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Second Prize:
Inverted in a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk by Eric Laugen
Flying out of Boeing Field in 2011 during the Liberty Foundation's "Salute to the Veterans Tour".
Third Prize:
Sky High by Kristine Kisky
Young Annabelle Kisky of Seattle dreams of being an astronaut. For now, her training involves school work and swing sets.
Honorable Mention:
Fat Albert Coming up on Lake Washington by Bernardo Malfitano
Taken during SeaFair in August of 2011, this photograph shows U.S. Marine Corps aviators putting their C-130 --the Blue Angels' support airplane, "Fat Albert"--into a dramatic bank for a photo pass over Lake Washington.
