The Museum's diorama of the Apollo 17 landing site is on display in the Apollo exhibit. The display features the meticulously detailed 1/6 scale models of the lunar module Challenger, the lunar rover and scale versions of Apollo 17 astronauts Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt. The lunar module and rover were built by master model maker Dave Gianakos.

These models were first displayed at the Alabama Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama as part of a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Apollo 11. Since then Mr. Gianakos has generously donated these models to the Museum. He has made some repairs and upgrades to the models that include installing new interior cabin lights to allow visitors the opportunity to see some of the crew cabin area details.
